1.Nursery rhymes are a great way into learning early phonic skills (the ability to hear, identify and manipulate letter sounds).

2. Nursery rhymes give children practice in pitch, volume as well as in language rhythm.

3. Nursery rhymes expand your child’s imagination. They transport children to a world of fantasy and play and can really develop your child’s visualisation skills through the use of actions.

4. Nursery rhymes follow a clear sequence of events.Although short, nursery rhymes often tell a story and contain a beginning, middle and end. Whilst this may be a compact way of storytelling, these will be some of the first stories your child will be able to follow and understand.

5. Nursery rhymes are easy to repeat, so they become some of a child’s first sentences.

6. Nursery rhymes improve a child’s vocabulary. Children hear and use new words that they wouldn’t come across in everyday language.

Let's start at the very beginning

A very good place to start

When you read you begin with “A-B-C”

When you sing you begin with “Do-Re-Mi”

Do-re-mi Do-re-mi

The first three notes just happen to be

Do-re-mi Do-re-mi

Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti

Let's see if I can make it easier

Doe, a deer, a female deer

Ray, a drop of golden sun

Me, a name I call myself

Far, a long, long way to run

Sew, a needle pulling thread

La, a note to follow Sew

Tea,a drink with jam and bread

That will bring us back to Do (oh-oh-oh)

Doe!a deer, a female deer

Ray!a drop of golden sun

Me!a name I call myself

Far!a long, long way to run

Sew!a needle pulling thread

La!a note to follow Sew

Tea,a drink with jam and bread

That will bring us back to Do

Doe, a deer, a female deer

Ray, a drop of golden sun

Me, a name I call myself

Far, a long, long way to run

Sew, a needle pulling thread

La, a note to follow Sew

Tea,a drink with jam and bread

That will bring us back to Do---

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do So Do

Now children, do-re-mi-fa-so and so on

are only the tools we use to build a song.

Once you have these notes in your heads,

you can sing a million different tunes by mixing them uplike this

So-do-la-fa-mi-do-re(老师)

Can you do that?

So-do-la-ti-do-re-do(老师)

Now put it all together!

So-do-la-fa-mi-do-re

So-do-la-ti-do-re-do

Good!

But it doesn't mean anything.

So we put in word, one word for every note, like this:

When you know the notes to sing

You can sing most anything

Together!

When you know the notes to sing

You can sing most anything

Doe, a deer, a female deer

Ray, a drop of golden sun

Me, a name I call myself

Far, a long, long way to run

Sew, a needle pulling thread

La, a note to follow Sew

Tea,a drink with jam and bread

That will bring us back to Do-

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti

Do Do Ti La So Fa Mi Re

Do Mi Mi, Mi So So

Re Fa Fa, La Ti Ti

Do-mi-mi, Mi-so-so

Re-fa-fa, La-ti-ti

When you know the notes to sing

(Do-mi-mi Mi-so-so Re-fa-fa La-ti-ti)

You can sing most anything

(Do-mi-mi Mi-so-so Re-fa-fa La-ti-ti)

Doe, a deer, a female deer

Ray, a drop of golden sun

Me, a name I call myself

Far, a long, long way to run

Sew, a needle pulling thread

La, a note to follow Sew

Tea,a drink with jam and bread

That will bring us back to -

Do Re Mi Fa (教师)

(So Do La Fa Mi Do Re)(童声伴唱)

So La (教师)

(So Do La Fa)

(La So Fa Me Re)

Ti Do (合唱)

3《The Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round

Round and round, round and round

The wheels on the bus go round and round

All through the town

The people on the bus goup and down

Up and down, up and down

The people on the bus go up and down

All through the town

The horn on the bus goes toot, toot, toot

Toot, toot, toot, toot, toot, toot

The horn on the bus goes toot, toot, toot

All through the town

The money in the box goes ding, ding, ding

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding

The money in the box goes ding, ding, ding

All through the town

The wiper on the glass goes swish, swish, swish

Swish,swish, swish, swish, swish, swish

The wiper on the glass goes swish, swish, swish

All through the town

The doors on the bus go open and shut

Open and shut, open and shut

The doors on the bus go open and shut

All through the town

The driver on the bus says, “Move on back”

Move on back, move on back

The driver on the bus says, “Move on back”

All through the town

4《Baa Baa Black Sheep

Baa baa black sheep

Have you any wool?

Yes sir, yes sir

Three bags full.

One for the master,

One for the dame,

And one for the little boy

Who lives down the lane.

Baa baa black sheep

Have you any wool?

Yes sir, yes sir

Three bags full.

One for the master,

One for the dame,

And one for the little boy

Who lives down the lane.

5《There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.

I dunno why she swallowed that fly,

Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,

That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -

Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;

How absurd, to swallow a bird!

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -

Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.

Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

But I dunno why she swallowed that fly

Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.

What a hog! To swallow a dog!

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat...

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

But I dunno why she swallowed that fly

Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.

Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!

She swallowed the goat to catch the dog ...

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider

That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

But I dunno why she swallowed that fly

Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.

I don't know how she swallowed a cow!

She swallowed the cow to catch the goat...

She swallowed the goat to catch the dog...

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse -

She's dead, of course.
