Ed Sheeran自幼就开始学习吉他，并且在高中时期就开始学习创作歌曲。艾德在四岁时就加入了教堂的合唱团，并在晚些接触了吉他。在中学时期开始尝试写歌作曲. 艾德曾在伦敦街头和酒吧唱歌，Dennis给大伙扒出来一张小艾德当年在伦敦街头唱歌时的照片. 

2015年10月20日，艾德·希兰（Ed Sheeran）凭借自己“在音乐方面的突出贡献”而被授予萨福克大学荣誉博士学位，这是他自从16岁离开校园后得到的最高级别的校园荣誉。但是在之后的演讲中，他大唱反调，一再强调“学位并不重要.
